Game Setup

8.1 Choose Game Size

Players choose:

  • Battlefield size
  • Deployment Point limit
  • Round limit
  • Mission
  • Hex movement or free measurement

8.2 Build Deployment Lists

Each player builds a Deployment List using the agreed Deployment Point limit. Command Centers do not cost Deployment Points. Each player may field up to 3 Workers without paying Deployment Points. Additional Worker capacity must be purchased in the Deployment List.

8.3 Prepare Battlefield

Place terrain on the battlef

8.2 Build Deployment Lists

Each player builds a Deployment List using the agreed Deployment Point limit. Command Centers do not cost Deployment Points. Each player may field up to 3 Workers without paying Deployment Points. Additional Worker capacity must be purchased in the Deployment List.

8.3 Prepare Battlefield

Place terrain on the battlefield.

Before the game begins, define each terrain piece.

Terrain may be:

  • Open Ground
  • Light Cover
  • Heavy Cover
  • Obscuring Terrain
  • Difficult Terrain
  • Impassable Terrain
  • Hazardous Terrain
  • Elevated Terrain
  • Ruins
  • Energy Field

8.4 Determine Command Zones

Each player has a Command Zone . A player’s Command Zone is the area within 12 inches of that player’s table edge. The area between both players’ Command Zones is No Man’s Land .

8.5 Place Command Centers

Each player rolls 1d6. The higher result chooses who places their Command Center first. Reroll ties.

Each Command Center must be placed:

  • The full model within 4 inches of that player’s table edge
  • On opposing table edges from the enemy Command Center
  • In a legal building location

8.6 Place Starting Workers

Each player begins with up to 3 Workers.

Starting Workers must be placed:

  • Within 1 inch of the player’s Command Center
  • Not overlapping another unit or building
  • In legal positions

Starting Workers count against Supply.

8.7 Starting Resources

Each player begins with:

8.8 Starting Protocols

Starting Protocols are an optional game mode.

If used, each player chooses one Starting Protocol after Deployment Lists are revealed but before the first turn begins.

ProtocolEffect

Expansion Protocol Start with +1 purchased Worker capacity. This Worker counts against Supply.

Military Protocol Start with one Field Unit from your Deployment List already in production with 1 production counter remaining.

Fortification Protocol Start with one Defense Building from your Deployment List under construction with 1 construction counter remaining.

Research Protocol Start with +50 Carbon or +50 Crystals.

Scouting Protocol Start with one Scout-tagged Field Unit from your Deployment List deployed within 6 inches of your Command Center.

A Starting Protocol cannot place or produce an asset that is not available in the player’s Deployment List unless the protocol specifically says otherwise.
